Job Summary

Independently evaluates and underwrites a range of equity loan applications. This role analyzes borrower creditworthiness, cash flow, collateral, and market conditions, preparing detailed credit analyses and making loan decisions within assigned approval limits. The Underwriter II ensures compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory standards, collaborates cross-functionally to resolve escalated issues, and may provide guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently review and analyze borrower financials, credit histories, property appraisals, and loan structures for equity loan requests.
  • Conduct in-depth risk assessments and prepare comprehensive written analyses and recommendations for approval, counteroffer, or declination within authority limits.
  • Ensure all loan decisions comply with internal credit policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Make loan decisions within moderate approval limits; escalate complex or high-exposure loans to senior underwriters or management.
  • Collaborate with processors, loan officers, closers, and other stakeholders to resolve escalated issues and facilitate timely credit decisions.
  • Provide guidance and support to Underwriter I and other team members as needed.
  • Participate in workflow process improvements and contribute to policy development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in loan underwriting, with a focus on equity or real estate lending.
  • Solid understanding of credit risk analysis, financial statement interpretation, loan structures, and collateral evaluation.
  • Familiarity with lending regulations, compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience with loan origination and underwriting software.
