Position OverviewOptara is seeking an experienced Field Support Engineer to provide hands-on technical support, systems administration, infrastructure management, and cybersecurity services for our clients.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced MSP/MSSP environment and enjoys working directly with clients to solve complex technical challenges. You will support and maintain a wide range of technologies, including servers, networks, virtualization platforms, cybersecurity solutions, cloud services, and end-user devices.
What You'll Do- Install, configure, maintain, and support client IT infrastructure and networks
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, networking, and security issues
- Support Windows Server environments, virtualization platforms (VMware and Hyper-V), and cloud technologies
- Deploy and maintain firewalls, switches, wireless networks, backup solutions, and cybersecurity tools
- Perform onsite and remote technical support for end users and client environments
- Monitor system performance and recommend infrastructure improvements
- Document systems, procedures, and technical changes within company platforms
- Assist with project implementation, migrations, upgrades, and technology deployments
- Maintain accurate asset inventories, licensing records, and client documentation
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely resolution of support requests and project deliverables
- Identify opportunities for technology improvements and communicate findings to internal stakeholders
- Follow established service delivery processes and maintain accurate ticket documentation and time tracking
Experience supporting IT environments within an MSP, MSSP, or managed services environment preferred
Strong knowledge of:
- Microsoft Windows Server
- Active Directory
- Microsoft 365
- VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
- Firewalls, switches, and wireless technologies
- Backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Cybersecurity best practices, CMMC
- Cisco, Dell, HP, and Apple devices
- Desktops, laptops, tablets, and printers
- Servers and network infrastructure
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently
Industry certifications such as:
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Certifications
- VMware Certifications
- Cisco Certifications
- Experience with Connect Wise, IT Glue, and Share Point
- Experience working within service-level agreements (SLAs)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Professional demeanor when interacting with clients and executives
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong work ethic, accountability, and commitment to continuous learning
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work at computer stations for extended periods
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel to client locations as required (states across the US)
