Position: Conventional Machinist - 1st Shift (HLG)

Conventional Machinist – Burbank, CA

Shift Hours

First Shift: Monday‑Friday, 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Overtime may adjust start or end times. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.

Job Summary

The Conventional Machinist operates a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, including fabricating, modifying or repairing mechanical instruments. The role may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools, maintaining industrial machines, utilizing knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Machine parts to specifications using conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill presses.
  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all conventional machine tools, drill presses, and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials into machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances.
  • Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for preparation of machinery work.
  • Listen to operating machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and compensate for problems.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:

    1+ year training in conventional machining, including on‑the‑job experience and informal training.
  • Knowledge: inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges); safety procedures and regulations;
    Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing; cutting tool geometry; tooling and coordination.
  • Skills/Abilities: work quickly and efficiently through process improvement structure; good verbal and written communication; strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Education/Certification:

    High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Eligibility: may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where such access is required, only US persons will be considered. As a DoD contractor, we are bound by ITAR.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Machine shop class(es) at local junior colleges.
  • Understanding of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
Working Conditions
  • Normal manufacturing environment conditions.
  • Use of safety equipment such as eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps, and any other required PPE.
  • Exposure to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust, or fumes.
  • Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary.

Workspace (line, cube, etc.): clean bench.

Compensation

Hourly range: $24.87 to $31.74. Salary may vary based on experience, responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for performance‑based bonus programs.

Background Check and Drug Screening

Candidates must complete a satisfactory background check. FAA sensitive positions require participation in a random drug test pool.
