Job Description

Summary: Responsible for all assembly/welding operations. Supervises all personnel within these departments. Instills the culture of visual material flow and standard work. Maintains the required safety stock buffers to ensure 100% OTD.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct all work in the assigned departments in accordance with specifications established by the engineering division.
  • Utilize machines, materials, services, reports, and recommendations from various staff functions to control detailed operations and overall performance. For example:
    • Use production schedules and daily status reports from Production Control to manage production and prevent delinquencies.
    • Approve and apply manufacturing engineering standards, ensuring they are administered and used properly. Report all method changes promptly to Manufacturing Engineering.
    • Use variance reports from Data Processing as a guide to take corrective action and keep costs in line with the budget.
  • Overcome obstacles such as material shortages or machine/tooling breakdowns, using best judgment and seeking help only when necessary. Enlist assistance from Tooling, Engineering, Production Control, or Manufacturing Engineering as needed.
  • Train and assist workers to:
    • Maintain product quality per specifications.
    • Keep scrap at the lowest practicable level.
    • Maintain high productivity without lowering quality standards.
    • Ensure a smooth work flow within the department and to downstream departments.
    • Control costs to meet the budget.
    • Work safely and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Carry out special projects in the department arising from employee suggestions, lead person proposals, or managerial input.
  • Consult with Human Resources regarding grievances.
  • Assume full responsibility for the quality of parts leaving the department and for accurate production counts, delegating only as necessary.
  • Maintain required records as prescribed by the superintendent.
  • Keep the superintendent informed verbally and provide reports only upon request.
  • Provide supervisory direction to all assigned personnel; select personnel; prepare performance reviews; administer discipline; make recommendations on compensation, promotion, demotion, and termination.
  • Conduct regular department inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety; arrange for proper maintenance, operation, and orderliness of machinery, equipment, facilities, and material in process.
  • Perform personnel functions such as recommending selection, hiring, status changes, or termination of hourly employees. Observe qualifications for Foreman selection and assist in enforcing labor agreements and corporate policies.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Supervisors are also expected to maintain an organized, safe work area in accordance with safety standards and quality practices.

Qualifications

Education and/or

Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
    Bachelor’s degree highly desirable.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace manufacturing preferred.
