Manual Lathe Operator

A Manual Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, calibrating, and operating conventional manual lathes to machine precision components. The operator performs turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, and cutting operations while maintaining dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements. They interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, manually adjust spindle speeds and feed rates, and verify finished dimensions using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers.
The operator is experienced in machining a variety of aerospace and specialty materials, including:
- Inconel
- Titanium
- CRES (Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel)
- Alloy Steel
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual engine lathes.
- Machine parts to blueprint specifications and tight tolerances.
- Select and install appropriate tooling, inserts, and work holding fixtures.
- Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, grooving, drilling, and cutoff operations.
- Calculate and manually adjust speeds, feeds, and depths of cut based on material type.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain tooling and equipment in proper working condition.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Work with difficult-to-machine materials such as Inconel, Titanium, CRES, and Alloy Steel while achieving required quality standards.
