Communications Coordinator will be a full-time, non-exempt employee. The Communications Coordinator will directly report to and will work closely with the Executive Director and will work closely with the Development & PR Manager as part of the Development and Communications team at Education Through Music-Los Angeles. The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Development Department to help produce marketing collateral, oversee media relations, develop external partnerships to further the mission of ETM-LA, and maintain consistent branding.
The Coordinator must be creative and have excellent writing/verbal skills. This position takes the lead in some video projects, and supports the marketing efforts with editing and high-level writing projects.
- Create content supporting multiple channels like print and digital collateral (newsletters, brochures, annual report, “Welcome” emails), videos, and website to increase ETM-LA’s visibility and build greater brand awareness with Executive Director/Dev. Manager.
- Develop and implement consistent messaging that clearly and consistently articulates ETM-LA’s brand promise that resonates with all diverse target audiences.
- Gather and maintain analytics and ads for website and make changes to website and marketing based on the statistics; build audience awareness on all online platforms.
- Help send out major ETM-LA announcements and news to local and national print, online and television media.
- Provide support for fundraising events including: preparing ETM-LA’s event table, building relevant materials to cater to the specific event/branding, assisting with materials for silent auctions and raffles, posting on social media, and assisting with event correspondence.
- Assist with the management of the collection of photos/videos; assist with collecting quotes and stories from the field, and sharing outcomes.
- Provide support of gathering and building program information (periodic updates for publications, information, evaluation, etc.).
- Help send out major ETM-LA announcements and news to local and national print, online and television media.
- Assist with the development of news releases for major ETM-LA announcements and events.
- Help write and pitch story ideas to key target media.
- Support general duties for the Executive Director.
- Manage and schedule the Executive Director’s calendar.
- Performance other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Writing, Literature, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Marketing or related field. 2 years of experience required; up to 2 years of the required education may be substituted for additional years of experience.
- Specialized knowledge or experience in social media, business style writing, proofreading, interviewing, event planning, analytics, interfacing and engaging with audience/donors.
- Nonprofit experience is desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Ability to conduct research online, to meet deadlines, to write and edit in response to guidelines and feedback, as well as to write and edit independently.
- Expertise in database management and using office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite; ability to learn new software such as Word Press publishing. Experience with Salesforce database preferred.
