Week of 03/23/2026 - Written examination
Week of 04/20/2026 - Performance examination
Under direct supervision of a journeyman Line Mechanic or Line Mechanic Foreman, to work in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines while fulfilling the training and educational requirements of the Line Mechanic Apprenticeship Program of the City of Burbank; and to do related work as required.
Assists journey level Line Mechanics in overhead and underground construction and rigging; installs and maintains energized primary and low voltage systems, 34.5 KV lines, and street lighting systems; performs related ground work; keeps supplies and tools in proper order; operates power driven equipment such as trucks, compressors, pole trailers and skip loaders; completes after-hour classes and receives on-the-job instruction and training to become progressively more skilled and able to work more independently;
may be required to perform duties in the handling, cleanup, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Employment Standards:
Ability to operate common tools in mechanical work; learn electrical work in the installation and maintenance of electrical facilities and desire to work as a Line Mechanic in the future; follow oral and written directions; work at heights; learn and employ safe work practices; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
Education/Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent at time of appointment.
Special Conditions & Requirements: Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection.
License & Certificates: A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of appointment and a valid California Class “A” driver’s license within 18 months of appointment.
