Position: Recreation Leader II - (Seasonal) Summer Camp Van Driver

Do you love working with kids of all ages? Make a difference in your community while creating fun, safe, and memorable experiences for youth. The City of Burien is seeking multiple energetic, dependable, and community-minded individuals to join our Recreation Team to support our youth Summer Camps. In this position, you will implement youth programs, lead our summer camp sites, and provide transportation for participants to program sites in a passenger van.

Shifts

Typically, the schedule would be four to eight hours a day, Monday - Friday, anytime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Schedules may be adjusted based on business need to ensure proper coverage is met.

0 - 40 hours per week, depending upon participant enrollment for the week.

This is a seasonal/temporary position and will not exceed 1040 hours. These positions are not eligible for health benefits or retirement.

June 17, 2026 - August 30, 2026

These positions will be responsible for transporting participants to program sites in a passenger van.

Incumbents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Be able to submit a satisfactory Driving Abstract
Essential Functions
  • Assist in the supervision of participants of assigned programs.
  • Actively participate in activities while maintaining order and discipline.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants at all times.
  • Assist in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of program staff and volunteers as assigned.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of scheduled activities.
  • Recommend new program components based upon participant and parent input, research, and trends.
  • Complete facility and/or vehicle safety check prior to each program occurrence.
  • Assist with program evaluations and/or related participant quality assurance measures.
  • Provide for the safety of participants at all times. Render First Aid in case of minor injuries and CPR as needed.
  • Work closely with all staff in an enthusiastic, cooperative, and supportive manner and communicate with Recreation Leader III and other staff, volunteers, and City personnel as needed.
  • Secure and maintain materials and equipment for program needs. Ensure facility and grounds are kept clean and litter-free. Clean program areas and store equipment and supplies at the end of each day.
  • Attend scheduled staff training and meetings.
  • Assist with developing and disseminating promotional materials.
  • Respond to comments, questions, and/or complaints from participants and the general public; provide information to the public concerning program practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform light maintenance duties, including but not limited to sweeping the floor, picking up litter, and cleaning the van as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Secondary Function
  • Provide transportation using the City van for programs. (Incumbents age 21 or over only.)

    Visual arts, music, theater, dance, sports, outdoor recreation, games, and/or other healthy activities.
