Description of WorkThis position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, Burke County, NC. Foothills Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody Male facility housing 712 single cells.
Key Duties of a Correctional Case Analyst often include, but are not limited to:- Initial diagnostic evaluation and referral counseling provided for offenders at diagnostic centers throughout the State prison system.
- Compile socio-psychological histories on offenders, prepare and present written summary reports with recommendations on classification and program needs to the appropriate committee or individual.
- Consult with psychological personnel in determining test results of mental health evaluations/assessments.
- Provide supportive counseling when necessary and act as a referral source when offenders need the aid of another professional service such as social services or mental health services.
- Conduct pre-sentence diagnostic reports on offenders ordered by the court. These reports are detailed documentation of the crime version, the offender's background, and the employees' recommendations for treatment alternatives.
- Employees present their findings to the pre-sentence diagnostic committee where a final decision is made and then issued back to the courts to aid in sentencing of offenders.
Salary Grade Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Documented knowledge of test analysis and interpretation.
- Documented knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles.
- Documented knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies relating to inmate custody and treatment.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
The Division of Institutions
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
