Overview

The Ground Paramedic demonstrates advanced critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings.

Essential Functions
  • Provides advanced medical care, including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of patients.
  • Safely drives and operates ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
  • Transports patients to appropriate medical facilities while ensuring their safety and stability.
  • Maintains effective communication with dispatch, hospital staff, police, fire personnel, and other necessary parties.
  • Accurately completes and maintains Patient Care Reports, files, and forms.
  • Cleans and maintains medical equipment, vehicles, and living quarters.
  • Participates in ongoing training and continuing education to maintain paramedic certification and stay current with medical protocols.
  • Provides supervision and ensures the quality and accuracy of care provided by EMTs and other emergency personnel.
  • Provides patient education on various health topics, including disease management and prevention.
  • Idaho Base:
    Community Health Emergency Services (CHEMS):
    Provides continued or follow-up care that can prevent unnecessary readmissions, or 911 calls from those patients within the community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of Paramedic course
  • Must obtain Paramedic license in state of operation within 120 days
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • Current valid driver license in good standing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
  • Paramedic National Registry Certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (must obtain within 120 days of hire and maintain throughout employment)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (must obtain within 120 days of hire and maintain throughout employment)
  • Attendance License (Before start of employment)
Physical Requirements
  • All EMS medical crew members may be subject to work conditions in ambulances, hospitals, and outdoor environments (inclement weather, extreme temperatures, accident scenes, steep terrain, back country, etc.). Exposure to noise, vibration, and infections in enclosed spaces.
  • Ability to see, read information, labels, and operate monitors; assess patient needs; identify equipment and supplies.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment; frequent computer use for documenting patient care and medication preparation.
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients; bend to retrieve and carry supplies and equipment; handle items of varying weights.
  • Ability to walk, transport/ambulate patients, push/pull gurneys and portable equipment, and navigate crowded rooms.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods.
  • For driving roles: ability to drive a vehicle requiring sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.
