Job Description
The Emergency Medical Technician demonstrates critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings.
Essential Functions- Quickly and efficiently responds to emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Assesses patients' conditions to determine the nature and extent of their injuries or illnesses.
- Provides basic life support and administers first aid, CPR, and other basic life support measures.
- Stabilizes patients at the scene of an emergency and during transport to medical facilities.
- Safely transports patients to hospitals or other medical facilities.
- Operates emergency vehicles. Drives ambulances and other emergency vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Communicates and coordinates with other emergency services as well as family members or staff.
- Maintains equipment and ensures it is in good working order and properly stocked.
- Accurately documents the care provided and the patient's condition.
- Participates in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with medical protocols and procedures.

Provides continued or follow-up care that can prevent unnecessary readmissions, or 911 calls from those patients within the community.

– Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of EMT Basic Course
- Must obtain EMT license in state of operation within 120 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Current valid driver license in good standing
– Preferred Qualifications
- Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
- EMT National Registry Certification
- Attendance License (Before start of employment)
– Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of AEMT Course
- Must obtain AEMT license in state of operation within 120 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Current valid driver license in good standing
– Preferred Qualifications
- Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
- AEMT National Registry Certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (must obtain within 1 year of hire and maintain throughout employment)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (must obtain within 1 year of hire and maintain throughout employment)
- Attendance License (Before start of employment)
- All EMS medical crew members may be subject to certain work conditions while functioning in the full capacity of their position. These work conditions include, but are not limited to: performance of essential job responsibilities in a moving, ground ambulance, hospital as well as the potential to do so in an outdoor environment (inclement weather, extremes of temperature, accident scenes, steep terrain, back country, etc.),
exposure to noise, vibration, and dehydrating environment of a ground ambulance, exposure to patients with known or unknown infectious disease in an enclosed space. - Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items…
