We are looking for a meticulous staff accountant to support a nonprofit organization in California. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage a busy payables workload while contributing to core accounting activities such as reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting. The role offers the chance to work in a fully onsite setting and partner with internal teams to maintain accurate, timely financial operations.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a large volume of accounts payable transactions with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
• Examine invoices and related documentation to confirm proper coding, approvals, and compliance with internal procedures before payment processing.
• Record journal entries and assist in keeping general ledger activity organized and up to date.
• Reconcile accounts regularly, investigate variances, and work through outstanding issues to ensure clean financial records.
• Produce and maintain recurring financial reports related to payables, membership revenue, and other accounting activity.
• Contribute to month-end close by preparing schedules, supporting reconciliations, and assisting with reporting requirements.
• Partner with departments and external vendors to address payment questions, correct discrepancies, and improve resolution times.
• Maintain organized accounting records and uphold established internal controls, policies, and documentation standards.
• Provide broader accounting assistance and participate in special assignments as business needs evolve.
