Job Summary
The Business Developer (BD) works to improve Bright View’s market position and achieve profitable financial growth. This role helps to achieve long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates, closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The BD manages the sales pipeline from prospecting to closing and is responsible for full‑cycle landscape and, depending on region, snow sales.
The BD collaborates with partners including operations, finance, marketing and more to manage responses to bids in an effort to meet sales targets.
- Work with prospective customers to discover their “points of pain” and develop solutions.
- Accurately forecast sales deliverables and KPI’s.
- Achieve sales goals and work independently.
- Perform sales prospecting using consultative sales techniques to build long‑standing business relationships; conduct marketing and pricing activities.
- Prepare and conduct heavy phone prospecting, sales presentations, virtual demonstrations, and handle contract negotiations with minimal supervision.
- Identify customer needs and utilize solution‑based selling techniques to demonstrate the value of Bright View services.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospects and existing clients.
- Build and maintain trust‑based professional relationships with key decision makers.
- Plan daily activities to hit specific benchmarks and close business.
- Log activity consistently and reliably in CRM (Salesforce).
- Work in a fast‑paced environment while operating with a high sense of urgency.
- Communicate proactively with all decision makers and influencers.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Extensive face‑to‑face (B2B) selling experience at the mid‑to‑senior levels, 3–5 years of experience.
- Experience managing multiple projects and ability to multi‑task in a large territory.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with a CRM or SFA tool.
- Proven track record of sales goal attainment and pipeline management.
- Highly competitive, positive, and results‑driven.
- Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills to build client‑centric proposals.
- Working experience with social media.
- Local knowledge and contacts in one or more market segments preferred.
- Ability to be self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Experience in the service industry with commercial contract sales desirable.
- Constant operation of a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, cell phone and sales programs/tools.
- Position is a combination of mobile and sedentary work; must remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Spend more than half of the time working away from Bright View’s places of business selling and obtaining orders or contracts.
- Ability to travel by car, train and plane.
- Traverse uneven grounds and walk on job sites with clients and branch teams for periods up to 4 hours.
- Works both indoors and outdoors.
- Field‑based position, combination of office and customer‑facing duties.
$75,000 – 85,000 per year.
