Senior Accountant

About the Prospect

The role reports to the Manager, Finance and supports the agency's budgeting, reporting, and compliance activities.

• Coordinate preparation of the annual agency budget under the direction of the Manager, Finance.
• Assist managers in budget submissions to regional governments.
• Prepare year‑to‑date financial reports.
• Prepare journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare annual grants utilization report for regional government.
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and review same.
• Conduct variance analysis of monthly general ledger and financial statements.
• Handle revenue recognition, funds analysis, and complete government documents.
• Maintain year‑end audit schedules.
• Reconcile agency’s investments monthly and annual reconciliation.
• Prepare annual returns (e.g., Charity Information Return).
• Complete GST returns semi‑annually.
• Complete Statistics Canada reporting.
• Prepare and post payroll journal entries.
• Complete other assignments directed by the Manager, Finance.

• Completion of post‑secondary education.
• Two to five years of financial accounting, auditing and/or budgeting experience.
• Knowledge of the application of principles and practices employed in effective financial analysis and research, budget development and control techniques and processes.
• Strong analytical, research, problem‑solving and resolution abilities.
• Ability to communicate results of analysis and effectively interact with leaders at all levels of the organization.
• A team player who thinks strategically and effectively when faced with difficult challenges.
• Highly organized and efficient, able to prioritize and work effectively in a deadline‑oriented environment.
• Ability to work with minimal direction, ensuring all work aligns with program and agency goals.
• Strong project management skills.
• Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, macros, lookup functions), SAGE, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Dayforce Payroll and HR module experience an asset.

$80,000 – $90,000 per year
