About the Company
Our client is a food manufacturing company that operates three plants and two distribution centers. The Controller will support a highly operational multi‑site manufacturing operation and serve as the key finance business partner to plant leadership.
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Analysis (50%)
- Month‑end close and financial reporting
- EBITDA bridge analysis
- Margin and variance analysis, including financial statement review and presentations
Operations Support & Business Partnering (50%)
- Partner closely with plant managers and operations leaders
- Provide operational finance support and insights
- Translate financial results into actionable business recommendations
- Present results and analysis to senior leadership, including the CEO and CFO
- Act as the "right hand" to the plant manager on financial and operational matters
- Lead and manage an accounting team of five staff, focusing on performance, coaching, and development
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in operational reporting and analysis – yield and labour efficiency, SKU mix impact, operational expenses, inventory trends, AFE review, and cost‑saving initiatives
- Engage in regular meetings with senior executives and present financial results to inform decisions
- Drive process improvement for the accounting team, focusing on value‑add activities
- Manage month‑end close process and financial reporting package, ensuring accuracy, completeness and deadlines
- Support enforcement of closing timelines for all reporting activities
- Strengthen partnerships with grocery customers and maintain strong working‑capital position
- Manage cash flow reporting and monitor working‑capital levels
- Establish and monitor internal controls and regulatory compliance; complete balance‑sheet and variance reconciliations monthly
- Key contact for treasury, intercompany divisions, and external audits; coordinate required information and adhere to deadlines
- Collaborate with other controllers on best‑practice approaches
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration.
- Professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) and at least 10 years of progressive experience.
- Manufacturing experience required, preferably in food processing.
- Independent controllership experience, including operations accounting, standard costing, and business analysis.
- Knowledge of ASPE and ability to interpret and apply guidance.
- Leadership and people‑management skills to develop talent within a team.
