The Special Education Teacher is a dynamic and essential member of a collaborative, student-centered team dedicated to accelerating growth and expanding opportunity for all learners. This role provides targeted instruction and intervention in math, reading, writing, behavior, and executive functioning within a highly coordinated, data-driven support system.
We are seeking an educator who thrives on problem-solving, believes deeply in student potential, and is energized by designing responsive instruction that moves students toward mastery at every stage of their academic development. The Special Education Teacher works both within and across grade levels to ensure cohesive programming and measurable progress.
This position partners closely with the Supervisor of Student Services, Principal, Language Arts and Math Coordinators, Reading and Math Interventionists, fellow Special Education staff, and Classroom Teachers. Together, this team advances district strategic goals through thoughtful analysis of data, aligned instructional planning, and shared accountability for student success.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:
* Valid Connecticut Certification (065, 165, or 265) Comprehensive Special Education
* Strong background in evidence-based reading intervention, including phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding and word recognition, fluency, and comprehension
* Training and/or experience in structured, multi-sensory reading approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, or comparable methodologies)
* Knowledge of evidence-based math intervention strategies, including number sense development, problem-solving, and targeted skill remediation
* Experience implementing positive behavioral supports, functional behavior strategies, and data-informed behavior intervention planning
* Expertise in supporting executive functioning skills, including organization, task initiation, planning, self-monitoring, and self-regulation
* Proficiency in data analysis and progress monitoring systems to inform instructional decision-making
* Deep knowledge of assessment tools and the ability to analyze and translate data into targeted, effective intervention plans
* The ideal candidate is reflective, collaborative, and committed to using research-based practices to accelerate student growth across academic and behavioral domains.
