You will spend significant time on active job sites while pipe is being installed or replaced, carefully recording construction details, measurements, and site conditions using a laptop or tablet. This position combines hands-on field work with heavy administrative documentation to ensure accurate as-built records and high-quality reporting for underground utility construction.
Responsibilities
+ Support all documentation and reporting activities for third-party inspection services on natural gas pipeline construction and replacement projects.
+ Monitor construction activities in the field as pipe is installed or replaced and perform regular site walks.
+ Manage redline drawings and as-built documentation for newly installed pipe to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
+ Record starting and stopping points for pipeline segments on the design plans and document pipe depths and other key construction details.
+ Use a measuring wheel to obtain accurate measurements of specific locations along the pipeline route, similar to surveying tasks.
+ Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and utility maps to verify that field work aligns with approved designs.
+ Enter field data, measurements, and observations into software programs on a laptop or tablet in real time or shortly after collection.
+ Prepare thorough and accurate field notes and inspection reports as a third-party inspector, maintaining strong QA/QC standards.
+ Perform construction measurements using tools or systems such as Trimble, ArcGIS, or similar technologies as needed.
+ Work safely and effectively in active utility work zones, coordinating with on-site personnel and following all safety requirements.
+ Collaborate with another field technician and the client's foreman during inspections to confirm project details and resolve documentation questions.
+ Maintain organized digital and/or physical records of all field documentation, ensuring information is complete, legible, and ready for review.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in a field engineering, field technician, inspection, or assistant project management role related to underground construction projects such as pipeline, gas, electric, landfill, or civil work.
+ Proven ability to perform detailed documentation in the field using a tablet or computer to capture accurate field notes and measurements.
+ Hands-on experience performing construction measurements using tools or systems such as Trimble, ArcGIS, or comparable technologies.
+ Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility maps.
+ Strong quality assurance and quality control mindset with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and timely reports.
+ Comfort working daily in active field environments where utility construction work is taking place.
+ Ability to walk job sites, push a measuring wheel, and work outdoors for extended periods.
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage redlines, as-builts, and multiple data points accurately.
+ Proficiency with basic computer and laptop applications used for data entry and documentation in the field.
