Communication Coach – Visually Impaired Associate
Primary responsibilities include providing communication assistance using Braille to students who are visually impaired to ensure continuity across the child's learning environment. The support includes explaining, expanding, and ensuring understanding, and acting as a liaison between the general educational environment and IEP team members. The coach will provide coaching and prompts regarding expectations and transitions for visual communication within the educational environment.
Must understand and implement the goals and objectives in an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Must assist in academic subjects using lesson plans and instructional strategies developed by teachers and other professional support staff. The coach will monitor comprehension and behaviors, using environmental cues, answering questions appropriately, volunteering appropriate information, and asking for clarification. Must gather and maintain data about the performance and behavior of individual students and confer with special and general education teachers about student schedules, instructional goals, progress, and performance.
Must operate computers and use assistive technology and adaptive equipment that enable students with special needs to participate more fully in general education, and oversee daily maintenance and use of assistive devices. Other duties as assigned.
