Masters Academy International
Masters Academy International (MAI) is New England’s only school that intentionally integrates elite athletics with rigorous academics to prepare students for excellence in college, career, and life. At MAI, we believe that operational excellence is inseparable from student success. Systems, communication, and relationships matter deeply, and when done well, they create the conditions for students and educators to thrive.
Our Upper Division (Grades 6–12) serves a dynamic community of student-athletes, families, faculty, and college partners. The complexity of this environment requires not only strong administrative support, but also a professional who understands the rhythms of adolescent development, the demands of college preparation, and the importance of trust, discretion, and precision.
About the RoleThe Mental Performance Coach / Sports Psychologist plays a key role in MAI’s high-performance ecosystem, intentionally developing the psychological skills that support elite performance, injury recovery, motivation, and long‑term well‑being. This is a proactive, integrated position that works closely with coaches, athletic trainers, academic leaders, and student support staff to embed mental performance training into daily athletic life. The role supports student‑athletes across sports and age levels through individual counseling, team‑based programming, and coach consultation.
WhatYou Will Do
The successful candidate will deliver tailored mental performance support to student‑athletes, helping them manage anxiety, confidence, motivation, focus, and emotional regulation, as well as guiding them through injury recovery and return‑to‑play transitions. They will design and facilitate team workshops and sport‑specific training sessions to build core skills such as goal setting, visualization, mindfulness, leadership, and team cohesion. Using evidence‑based techniques, the candidate will help athletes overcome mental blocks, enhance resilience, and maintain sustainable motivation.
They will also collaborate closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and student support staff to integrate mental performance strategies into training and competition environments, ensuring all work aligns with ethical and regulatory standards.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated mental performance professional who is energized by MAI’s mission and believes that mental performance is essential to both sport and human development. The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Psychology, Sports Psychology, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field, and have experience working with competitive athletes within high‑performance environments.
You should be trained in evidence‑based psychological and mental performance interventions and able to translate theory into practical, real‑world support. Exceptional interpersonal skills are essential, including empathy, active listening, clarity, and the ability to build trust with adolescents, families, and staff. You must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when navigating sensitive situations, and be naturally collaborative, valuing interdisciplinary teamwork.
We’re seeking someone who is reflective, curious, and committed to ongoing learning and growth, and membership or certification with professional organizations is preferred.
