College Intern, Summer Career Academy in AI - 2026

Burlington Public Schools, Burlington High School - Burlington, Massachusetts

Job Goal

Assist in teaching students data science and agentic AI skills in a 4‑week summer academy that is part of the career pathways program. Student interns work in a team supervised by a classroom teacher to teach AI skills to high‑school students.

Responsibilities
  • Join a team of three college interns and teach 25 high‑school students about Python, machine learning, and AI.
  • Meet with the Program Director prior to the start date to review curriculum and meet the team.
  • Provide one‑on‑one guidance to students as needed.
  • Help students decide on a project idea and provide guidance and support.
Requirements
  • Declared or intended BA or BS in computer science or a related field by the start of the program.
  • Experience with at least one programming language and project experience.
  • Experience with data science, machine learning, and AI agents.
  • Previous teaching, tutoring or mentoring experience, especially in computer science, is strongly preferred.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to various learning styles and respect for individual differences of students.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members and share classroom responsibilities.
  • Strong time management, organizational and communication skills.
Schedule
  • July 6 – July 9: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., meeting at Burlington; travel to and from UMass Lowell by bus.
  • July 13 – July 30: Monday–Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at Burlington High School.
Physical Demands
  • Must be willing and able to manage students physically if needed.
  • Frequent sitting and speaking or hearing; occasional walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or tools, and reaching with hands or arms.
  • Occasional lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community.
Compensation

Hourly rate of $26 per hour

July 6, 2026
