HMMH is seeking a Technical Analyst to join our Surface Transportation Group in a hybrid role based at our Burlington, Massachusetts headquarters.

The Technical Analyst demonstrates mastery of core technical skills while continuing to build advanced capabilities. This individual independently completes defined technical tasks with minimal oversight, delivers accurate and timely work products, and contributes thoughtful technical solutions within larger project teams. The role requires sound technical judgment, attention to detail, and continued professional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM), FTA/FRA noise and vibration prediction methodologies, GIS tools, and related modeling techniques to transportation projects.
  • Conduct transportation noise and vibration analyses and develop TNM objects, mapping outputs, and technical figures.
  • Operate noise and vibration monitoring equipment in support of Surface Transportation Group (STG) projects.
  • Use Sound

    PLAN or similar commercial modeling software under guidance from senior staff.
  • Apply data management, coding, or GIS-based automation tools, as appropriate, to support technical analyses.
  • Deliver assigned tasks accurately, on time, and consistent with project scope and commitments to Project Managers; develop familiarity with financial and contractual considerations.
  • Prepare clear, well-documented technical work products and contribute to reports with increasing autonomy.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and interact with clients on technical matters; seek expert guidance when appropriate.
  • Contribute to proposal efforts and participate in professional and industry organizations.
  • Support continuous improvement of technical methods and workflows.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in acoustics, engineering, physics, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 2–6 years of experience in transportation noise and vibration analysis or related environmental work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with TNM and familiarity with FTA/FRA prediction methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally for client meetings and fieldwork (up to approximately 25%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ArcGIS and preparation of mapping outputs for technical reports.
  • Familiarity with Sound

    PLAN or similar commercial modeling software.
  • Experience conducting field noise and vibration measurements.
  • Exposure to coding, data management, or GIS-based automation tools.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and related environmental regulatory processes.
  • Involvement in professional organizations such as INCE, TRB, or NAEP.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. overhead regularly while conducting field measurements.
  • Frequent local travel and occasional travel within the United States.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during field assignments.
