Your Opportunity
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer (location flexible) to support our growth within the Water Sector at Stantec.
In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on water and wastewater.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Perform engineering design tasks on assigned projects under minimal supervision, including engineering drawings, engineering reports, presentations, and technical calculations.
- Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all project sizes, and support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in client project requirement meetings, coordination meetings with internal and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors in preparation and coordination of project specifications.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors.
- Perform on technically complex projects and may act as a technical resource to other team members. Apply advanced knowledge of current principles and practices of electrical engineering and stay informed of new methods and developments.
- Apply knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve complex issues where precedent may be limited.
- Contribute to the development of new standards and specifications of electrical design.
- May supervise the work of other project resources, including setting the project budget and their schedules for completing the work in conjunction with Project Managers.
- Engineer of record on own work product, work of non‑licensed engineers and designers.
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of industry standards as well as electrical codes.
- Experience with distribution systems operating at 120/208 V, 480 V, and 4160 V.
- Experience with the development of schematic control diagrams and block diagrams.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Well‑versed understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and Auto Desk products (AutoCAD, BIM
360); familiarity with Revit is a plus but not required. - Experience with specialized power system software such as ETAP and SKM Power Tools is a plus but not required.
- Experience with the construction phase of the project, including but not limited to shop drawing reviews, RFI reviews, and field inspections.
- Specialization in water/wastewater facility design.
- Ability to assist in developing construction bid documents, bid review, proposal development, and man‑hour estimates.
- Assist in the development of design documents including conduit layouts, material specifications, etc.
- Develop and build client relations.
- Assemble calculation packages for electrical designs, etc.
- Assist with electrical construction, startup, and commissioning field support: client, contractor, and vendor interaction.
- Has knowledge of electrical material specifications and procurement.
- Proven track record of coordinating with other engineering disciplines; specifically Piping Design, Structural, Control Systems, Process Engineering and Construction.
- Have general knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
