ProcessEngineering Manager – Stack Forging Thermal Solutions (Burlington, MA)
As a Process Engineering Manager, you’ll shape the future of advanced manufacturing technologies. You’ll lead the development, optimization, and control of complex processes that power Johnson Controls’ breakthroughs. This role goes beyond managing processes—you’ll build and scale a high‑performing Process Engineering team, fostering a culture that is technically rigorous, collaborative, and supportive. You’ll spend time in the lab and on the production floor, translating theory into practice, accelerating learning cycles, and driving continuous improvement where it matters most.
Responsibilities- Technical Leadership – Run and participate in cross‑disciplinary project teams working to address technical challenges or improve process capability.
- Manufacturing Process Development – Contribute to a wide range of projects to improve the team’s manufacturing technology, becoming a go‑to expert on the Stack Forging process across the organization.
- Hiring and Onboarding – Rapidly grow the process engineering team while maintaining a healthy culture and technical excellence.
- Mentorship – Lead and mentor the process engineering team to develop core engineering and process development skills, ensuring technical excellence and continuous growth.
- Technology Road mapping and Stakeholder Management – Manage the roadmap for core process technologies, taking input from a wide range of stakeholders and crafting a technology roadmap that creates meaningful business value within a reasonable timeframe.
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, ideally within a complex manufacturing or process‑intensive environment.
- 2+ years of proven experience managing and leading a technical engineering team.
- Proven experience with key manufacturing process development tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC, MSA).
- An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering or scientific field.
- Deep expertise in one or more core process disciplines: process control, experimental design (DOE), metallurgy, chemistry, manufacturing, or 3D printing.
- Technical background or direct experience with laser processing, complex metal forming, or high‑volume manufacturing readiness for advanced materials.
- Experience in metal additive manufacturing, specialized forming processes, or thermal management systems.
- Experience with high‑volume manufacturing, knowledge of how to tweak a process or part to produce 10,000’s of units per year.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear project scopes and business‑aligned technology roadmaps.
This position requires an onsite presence at our Burlington, MA facility. Candidates must be able to commute or relocate to the location. Only US citizens and/or permanent residents will be considered, as sponsorship is not available.
Salary and BenefitsHiring salary range: $130,000 – $200,000. Compensation is determined by education, experience, skills, and internal equity. The role includes a competitive bonus plan tied to individual, group, and corporate performance, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
