What You’ll DoAs a Mechanical Designer, New Product Introduction, you will work on engineering efforts to bring products from the lab into mass production. Your primary objective will be assisting in the design, commissioning, and improvement of the machines used in the Stack Forging process.
Who You AreYou have experience with large industrial machines through all phases of their life cycle. You have specific expertise in designing, building, and maintaining mechanical systems, including hydraulics and control systems. You prioritize machine functionality, reliability, and safety. You take full ownership of your projects, driving them forward independently while maintaining a strong sense of urgency. You know when to pivot, prioritize, and adapt to shifting demands to keep progress on track.
This role requires a high degree of technical ownership, cross‑functional collaboration, critical thinking for root cause analysis, and an ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. This position generally requires a commitment of 4 days onsite per week.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities are subject to change based on shifting business needs.
- Work with cutting‑edge control systems that cover our entire process, including high‑speed laser cutting, motion controls, precision hydraulics, and temperature control
- Build and maintain hydraulic press systems, work to identify potential future suppliers, and support in the construction of new machines
- Specify and select hardware, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor drivers, single and 3‑phase AC power system components, and associated personnel and equipment safety interlocks.
- Proficiency and willingness to take an active hands‑on role in troubleshooting, machine build‑out, and machine maintenance
- Design and implement human‑machine interfaces (HMI)
- Work cross‑functionally to gather input from many different stakeholders across multiple systems
- Write and maintain the IO lists, state diagrams, and specifications for all machines
- Control and power cable design, generate run lists, and make component selection.
- Own and update subsystem designs, BOM, specifications, CAD models, and electrical schematics
- Set up testing rigs and fixtures for measurement and characterization
- Work with 3rd party vendors to design, build, and troubleshoot
- Work cross‑functionally to push the envelope of what is possible
- Select and manage external vendors for components and subsystems
- Document and communicate all aspects of your work
