Trapani & Associates’ Radiation Shielding Engineering Steel Fabricator Detailer II will primarily be responsible for the reviewing & drafting of steel fabrication assemblies and components under the supervision of senior staff members. This position offers comprehensive training in radiation shielding design from one of the world’s leading design groups. While no prior radiation shielding experience is necessary, candidates must exhibit a strong desire to learn, acute attention to detail, and solid critical thinking skills.
The position will review and produce fabrication drawings from one of our shielding designs. The candidate would be responsible for detailed steel members and work in conjunction with our manufacturing shop. As the demand for fabrication drawings fluctuates, we may also cross train you in our shielding products, naturally strengthening your understanding of how our projects are done. Experience with building construction is not required but a plus.
Experience with steel detailing is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Have the ability to read a set of drawings and review fabrication drawing sets and accurately provide comments & corrections required.
- Pull apart all the components required for detailing.
- Detail assemblies and break them down into their individual parts, keying them together.
- Create accurate cut sheets and schedules of all related parts.
- Resolve design challenges and display a high degree of drafting proficiency with strong project organization skills.
- Identify potential issues in a design and alert senior staff.
- Work closely with our manufacturing departments in Houston, Amesbury, and other locations to understand our facilities’ capabilities and design parts that we can produce in-house.
- Proactively anticipate construction challenges and promptly alert senior staff to any issues.
- Associate’s degree with coursework in drafting/design is a plus.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in steel fabrication detailing is required.
- Strong understanding of building construction techniques and materials, as well as design principles.
- Skilled knowledge of 2D AutoCAD software for architectural or structural design, rendering, and detailing, emphasizing steel and concrete construction. Knowledge of Autodesk Revit is a plus.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication is required, including knowledge of steel shapes, welding, and utilization of both imperial and metric measurements.
- Proven ability to visualize things three-dimensionally from 2D documents.
- Keen eye for detail in graphics, such as line weights, detail layouts, and grammar.
- Ability to identify and make suggestions for design improvements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly convey design intent graphically and verbally.
- Strong team player with effective interpersonal skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other standard office equipment such as copy machines, computer printers, and plotters. The staff member in this position frequently communicates internally and externally; must be able to exchange accurate information via phone, email, and/or in person.
Specific vision abilities apply including close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. This position operates in a clerical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
