Position: LPN/RN, General & Thoracic Surgery (Hyannis) (Per Diem)

Job Description

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the General & Thoracic Surgery department at the MACC practice in Hyannis, you will provide high‑quality clinical support under the direction of the clinician or department supervisor. You will contribute to excellent customer service for patients, participate in the medical care team, and uphold the highest standards of competence in accordance with MACC’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist clinicians with clinical care of office patients under direct supervision.
  • Manage clinicians’ daily schedule and patient flow to expedite care and maximize clinical time.
  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtain relevant information and take vital signs as indicated (height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation).
  • Input pertinent clinical information into the electronic health record timely and accurately, and perform a complete medication reconciliation.
  • Assist clinicians with procedures and additional tests specific to the department; advise patients of required preparation and keep them informed of visit status.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms for patient arrivals; clean and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; notify supervisors of needed supplies or pharmaceuticals.
  • Under physician supervision, administer routine injections when delegated, documenting in real time and accurately.
  • Ensure telephone calls are answered timely and clinicians receive necessary information.
  • Coordinate care when clinicians are not immediately available, triaging telephone calls per established protocols.
  • Assist in resolving patient concerns by acting as an advocate, where appropriate.
  • Participate in practice and department meetings, trainings, and other continuous improvement activities to promote quality patient care.
  • Develop knowledge of community resources and the broader healthcare system while engaging in self‑assessment of skills.
  • Maintain patient rights and adhere to all confidentiality obligations pursuant to CCHC and HIPAA.
  • Provide clerical/office support as needed (scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients, scanning medical records, faxing, etc.).
  • Float to other MACC practices when required.
  • Perform other work‑related duties and activities as assigned.
  • Assist with assessment of patient needs and coordinate care under clinician direction.
  • Verify and implement clinicians’ orders for testing or procedures (EKG, dressing changes, spirometry, Holter monitors, etc.).
  • Provide effective, evidence‑based patient and family teaching using health promotion techniques, tailored to the patient’s values, beliefs, and learning needs.
  • Triage walk‑in patients per established protocols.
  • Maintain communication and collaboration with the interprofessional team to facilitate safe transitions and continuity of care.
LPN Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and time‑management skills.
  • Experience with current office technology and proficiency with computer applications (Electronic Medical Records, MS Office).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
RN Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Experience with current office technology and proficiency with computer applications (Electronic Medical Records, MS Office).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
Schedule Details

Per Diem; hours 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM; no weekends or holidays.

Compensation

The pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking into consideration factors such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value of Cape Cod Healthcare’s benefits package (if applicable), which includes healthcare, dental, vision, and retirement.

Hourly wage: $30 – $49.
