Job Description

About Us: LABBB Collaborative provides educational programming and support services for over 300 special needs students from over 65 districts. LABBB serves students ages 3 to 22 years old with a variety of special needs including students on the autism spectrum, students with multi-handicaps, pervasive developmental disorders, developmental delays, language deficits and social/emotional challenges. The LABBB community has a vision of skill-based instruction that considers the whole student from early childhood to adult living.

About the role: Seeking an experienced, autonomous Registered Nurse (RN) to work as a school-based office RN in a substantially separate special-needs program, located within a public-school setting. The RN will work independently as the healthcare provider while remaining part of the program team. The candidate will be patient with students of diverse abilities and has preferred experience working in a school-based setting with special-needs students.

The job mission is to maintain the health and safety of students. The school nurse will perform nursing services under the supervision of the Nurse Leader, in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines, local district policies, and regulations governing nursing and school health.

Responsibilities
  • Supports student sick visits, provides follow-up care, and reports to parents and/or physicians.
  • Provides emergency nursing care to students and staff.
  • Provides health education and anticipatory guidance for students.
  • Administers prescribed interventions, including medication administration.
  • Attends meetings and advocates for students’ medical needs.
  • Accompanies field trips when nursing support is required.
  • Supports school officials with documents for recreational trips and annual data reporting.
  • Implements communicable disease prevention and infection control and coordinates with the local board of health.
  • Provides staff training on student-specific conditions, school policies, AED use, medication delegation, and Epi-pen use.
  • Maintains comprehensive digital school health records, including office visits, physical exams, immunizations, individualized care plans, and new-student intake documents.
  • Creates individualized emergency plans, including seizure plans, life-threatening allergy plans, and asthma action plans.
  • Assists in the development of Individual Education Plans and advocates for additional nursing services when needed.
  • Performs state-mandated school screenings, refers appropriately, and reports data within deadlines.
  • Collaborates with school administrators to maintain a positive social and emotional climate.
  • Provides primary nursing coverage at LABBB Lexington High School and may float to other LABBB programs.
  • Stays on campus during school hours until all students are collected.
  • Orders and inventories supplies and equipment regularly.
  • Provides assistance with toileting needs as required.
Requirements
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Certification in CPR for healthcare providers.
  • DESE licensure as a School Nurse (required).
  • School Nurse experience preferred.
  • Case management experience preferred.

    Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Proficiency with SNAP electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Physically capable of carrying out the daily responsibilities of the health office, including standing for periods, transferring students, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $72,457 to $133,474, commensurate with experience and education.  salary includes compensation for a 4-week summer program.
