Key Responsibilities:

The 1:1 Nurse provides individualized healthcare support to a student with specific medical needs within the school setting. Responsibilities may include accompanying the student to and from school while riding the bus, when assigned or as needed to support the student's health, safety, and access to educational services. This role ensures the student's health, safety, and well-being, enabling full participation in educational activities

  • Collaborate with an RN if LPN or, if an RN, will create an individualized health care plan that clearly outlines the student's medical diagnosis and medical needs.
  • Follow and execute the student's Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP);
    Emergency Action Plan; 504; medical orders; and/or medical directives as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Attend school/bus transportation with the student or students as needed.
  • Provide direct care to the assigned student in accordance with established health plans, physician orders, and school health protocols.
  • Monitor and support management of acute and chronic conditions in accordance with established health plans and medical direction.
  • Provide medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation in compliance with school policies and applicable regulations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with school nursing staff, families, healthcare providers, teachers, and school personnel to promote student health and academic participation.
  • Respond to medical emergencies involving the assigned student and provide first aid when necessary.
  • Collaborate in educating students and staff on health-related topics to promote independence, safety, and wellness in the school setting.
  • Assist with mobility, feeding, toileting, positioning, or other personal care needs.
  • Ensure student health services are delivered in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and school district policies.
  • Observe school facilities and recommend modifications necessary to maintain optimum health and safety of students and school personnel.
  • Maintain current LPN/RN licensure in MA and CPR certification.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with caregivers/guardians to support student health and safety in the school setting.
  • Execute specialized medical procedures such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy tube feedings, and catheterization as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all medical equipment used by the student.
  • Other nursing duties as assigned by the Nurse Leader if the 1:1 student is not present.
  • Dates: 2026/2027 school year

    Compensation:

    RN - In accordance with the BEA Unit A contract

    LPN - $150 per day
