Analytical Chemist – 2nd Shift Burlington, MA

QSA Global, a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), specializes in supplying state-of-the-art gamma radiography and portable X-ray systems used in non-destructive testing (NDT), as well as high-performance radiation sources for oil well logging (OWL), industrial processes, and nuclear medicine. We are now focused on expanding our work in medical applications of radioisotopes—an area where chemistry plays a direct role in improving patient care. This includes growing our presence in radiopharmaceuticals and brachytherapy, building on decades of experience in radioisotope technology, design, and manufacturing.

An analytical chemist responsible for supporting and expanding QSA's analytical chemistry capabilities in support of radiochemistry, manufacturing, quality assurance, product development, and regulatory compliance. This role develops and validates analytical methods, performs analytical testing, establishes laboratory procedures, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to generate accurate, defensible analytical data that supports manufacturing, customer requirements, and future business growth. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical chemistry fundamentals with excellent laboratory practices, technical problem-solving skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Note:

The hours on this position are Monday – Thursday, 1pm – 11:30 pm. Enjoy a four-day work week while receiving a 15% pay differential for working second shift.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain analytical methods that support manufacturing, product development, and quality objectives.
  • Perform analytical testing using ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and other analytical instrumentation to generate accurate, reliable, and defensible analytical data.
  • Collaborate with Chemistry, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory personnel to support investigations, process improvements, and new product development.
  • Establish and maintain analytical laboratory procedures, specifications, QA/QC practices, and supporting documentation.
  • Support laboratory qualification activities, instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Interpret analytical data and communicate results through technical reports and scientific documentation.
  • Support investigations involving deviations, CAPAs, non-conformances, and out-of-specification analytical results.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new analytical techniques and laboratory capabilities to support future business needs.
  • Ensure analytical activities comply with applicable quality systems, laboratory safety requirements, and radiation safety standards.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Radiochemistry, or a related scientific discipline required.
  • Advanced degree (M.S.) preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience operating ICP-OES and ICP-MS, including method development, validation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, validating, and improving analytical methods.
  • Strong technical report writing and scientific documentation skills.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining QA/QC laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Experience working in regulated analytical laboratory environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with radioisotope analysis.
  • Experience supporting radiopharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Experience with Agilent instrumentation
  • Experience with GMP, GLP, ISO 17025, or comparable quality systems.
  • Experience supporting laboratory audits and regulatory inspections.
