The Senior Accountant is an advanced individual-contributor role positioned between Staff Accountant and Accounting Manager. The position takes ownership of complex accounting activities, performs detailed financial analysis, supports the month-end close, and serves as a technical resource to other accounting team members. The Senior Accountant works with greater independence than a Staff Accountant, identifying and resolving accounting issues and with overall focus on General Ledger and Month-End Close processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Ledger and Month-End Close- Prepare and post recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with complete supporting documentation.
- Own assigned portions of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare complex balance-sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
- Review selected journal entries and reconciliations prepared by other team members, as assigned.
- Analyze account activity, investigate unusual transactions and variances, and maintain assigned financial schedules.
- Develop schedules and reports that improve visibility into financial and operational performance.
- Assist with recurring forecasts, cash reporting, and working-capital analysis.
- Identify financial risks, reporting issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with inventory, work-in-process, and cost-of-goods-sold accounting.
- Analyze job costs and material, labor, and overhead variances.
- Research unusual inventory transactions, negative inventory, unclosed jobs, and other costing issues.
- Support cycle-count reconciliations, obsolete inventory analysis, and inventory-adjustment documentation.

Manage transactions and their general-ledger impact.
- Provide technical support and backup for accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
- Assist with resolving complex customer, vendor, aging, and reconciliation issues.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, cash reporting, and payment documentation.
- Provide backup coverage for essential accounting processes when needed.
- Follow and reinforce established accounting policies and internal controls.
- Identify control gaps, inefficiencies, and recurring errors and recommend im
provements. - Maintain current desk manuals and procedures for assigned responsibilities.
- Prepare schedules and support for audits, tax filings, and external requests.
- Participate in ERP, automation, reporting, and process-improvement projects.
- Assist with training and cross-training Staff Accountants and Accounting Associates.
- Serve as a resource for questions about accounting procedures and system transactions.
- Review selected work and lead small accounting projects when assigned.
- Demonstrate readiness for broader leadership responsibility while remaining primarily an individual contributor.
This position does not initially require formal direct reports. The Senior Accountant may provide training, work review, project leadership, and day-to-day guidance to other accounting employees.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
- Generally three to five years of relevant accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Manufacturing, inventory, or cost-accounting experience preferred.
