The Florence Township School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to lead a high school Learning and Language Disabilities classroom. The successful candidate will provide individualized, standards-based instruction designed to meet the academic, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, and transition needs of students with disabilities. The teacher will work collaboratively with related service providers, child study team members, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, families, and administrators to support student growth and successful postsecondary outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs and New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
- Provide instruction in academic, functional life, communication, social-emotional, and transition-related skills.
- Develop and implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, instructional strategies, and behavioral supports.
- Monitor student progress and use assessment data to adjust instruction.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation required under state and federal special education regulations.
- Participate in IEP meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, transition planning, and parent conferences.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, counselors, and child study team members.
- Supervise and provide direction to classroom paraprofessionals.
- Establish a structured, supportive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, employability, and postsecondary readiness skills.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and needs.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification or Teacher of the Handicapped certification.
- Appropriate New Jersey instructional certification for the assigned grade level or subject area, as required.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction, IEP implementation, progress monitoring, behavior supports, and transition planning.
- Experience working with high school students with learning and language disabilities preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, staff members, and outside agencies.
- Strong organizational, communication, classroom management, and instructional skills.
- Criminal history background clearance and other requirements established by the New Jersey Department of Education.
Salary:
As per the current negotiated contract
