The starting pay range for this position per hour is $24.00 - $26.00. The full pay range for this position per hour is $24.00 - $40.80.

All About Assets Protection

Assets Protection (AP) teams keep guests, staff, and the brand secure and lead during crisis events. They protect sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring products are available for guests. AP builds relationships inside and outside Target, including store leaders and public safety officials.

Skills

The role of an Assets Protection Team Leader develops skills and experiences in the following areas:

  • Leading a security culture, crisis response, safety environment, and crowd management.
  • Implementing daily/weekly AP workload priorities to support business goals.
  • Responding to theft incidents and preventing future loss.
  • Executing strategic resolutions for external theft and fraud, apprehending offenders per Target policy.
  • Partnering with store leaders to address operational shortage priorities.
  • Leading a team of hourly staff, including hiring, development, evaluation, and retention.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly environment.
  • Ensure every team member is trained to deliver Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
  • Provide feedback and hold team members accountable while recognizing great guest moments.
  • Review metrics (guest, financial, team outcomes) to identify opportunities, take action, and align the team on behaviors.
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring products are stocked and available.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes, participate in emergency scenarios, and create security plans.
  • Educate teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Coach and develop team members to enhance their skills.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support direct leaders in talent planning and performance management.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends and work with leaders to implement tactics that reduce loss.
  • Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs, including early mornings, overnight, evenings, and weekends.
  • Develop team schedules and adjust based on trends with leader validation.
  • Own prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents, including apprehensions.
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed by the AP leader.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution.
  • Implement and follow up on operational changes as directed.
  • Support the direct leader in educating teams on shortage priorities.
  • Order merchandise protection devices, manage budgets, and adhere to guidelines.
  • Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Build trust and accountability with the Store Director.
  • Maintain relationships with district and store leaders and law enforcement.
  • Ensure tactics preserve Target’s reputation.
  • Collaborate with retail partners to analyze trends and enhance security.
  • Recommend and interview candidates for open positions.
  • Support onboarding and learning to close knowledge gaps.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and compliance.
  • Maintain required training and accountability for expectations.
  • Serve as first responder for in‑store safety incidents.
  • Model physical security processes to enhance the security culture.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the store.
  • Address store needs such as emergencies and regulatory visits.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
