Mobile Diesel Technician Level I
Mobile Diesel Technician I is responsible for performing DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. The technician assists Mobile Diesel Technician II or higher with repairs and continues to learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostics. Work is frequently audited for quality.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on a company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritising work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of parts used and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent and up to 2 years of related experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform the job duties.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Current valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be substituted for a DOT physical.
- Candidate must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Ase T8 (PMI) certification.
- Ase T4 (Brakes) certification.
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk for long periods and perform moderate heavy labor.
- Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks.
- Communicate information succinctly and organize information; engage in effective two‑way communication.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment needed.
- Accurately judge distances between objects.
