Recreation Program Directors work in cooperation with Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff to help facilitate recreation clinics or camps. Recreation Program Directors are responsible for designing curriculum/lesson plans, teaching, preparing materials & supplies, managing participants and facilities during recreation programs. We are currently seeking applicants who would like to be directors in the area of Track & Field and Volleyball.

Union Affiliation: Non-Union

Pay Grade: $35.00 Hourly

Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and lead recreation clinics or programs tailored to participants’ skill levels and interests.
  • Communicate in advance with manager to coordinate class descriptions, dates, times, and space reservations.
  • Provide a positive and inclusive environment that fosters participation and enjoyment for all attendees.
  • Ensure the safety of participants by following and enforcing facility rules, inspecting equipment, and demonstrating proper care.
  • Set up, break down, and maintain class-related equipment and supplies before and after sessions.
  • Clearly explain instructions, techniques, and class objectives to participants; respond to inquiries, and provide guidance as needed.
  • Adjust class plans and techniques to accommodate varying group sizes, skill levels, or special needs.
  • Maintain attendance records, progress notes, and incident reports as required.
  • Address participant concerns professionally and escalated issues to facility management when necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in Education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation preferred.
  • Applicable recreation program skills and safety knowledge required.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
  • Knowledge of sport specific rules and regulations.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Must have a desire to work with children and demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Hold or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hiring.
