Recreation Program Directors work in cooperation with Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront staff to help facilitate recreation clinics or camps. Recreation Program Directors are responsible for designing curriculum/lesson plans, teaching, preparing materials & supplies, managing participants and facilities during recreation programs. We are currently seeking applicants who would like to be directors in the area of Track & Field and Volleyball.
Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade: $35.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week.
Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and lead recreation clinics or programs tailored to participants’ skill levels and interests.
- Communicate in advance with manager to coordinate class descriptions, dates, times, and space reservations.
- Provide a positive and inclusive environment that fosters participation and enjoyment for all attendees.
- Ensure the safety of participants by following and enforcing facility rules, inspecting equipment, and demonstrating proper care.
- Set up, break down, and maintain class-related equipment and supplies before and after sessions.
- Clearly explain instructions, techniques, and class objectives to participants; respond to inquiries, and provide guidance as needed.
- Adjust class plans and techniques to accommodate varying group sizes, skill levels, or special needs.
- Maintain attendance records, progress notes, and incident reports as required.
- Address participant concerns professionally and escalated issues to facility management when necessary.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- High school Diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework in Education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation preferred.
- Applicable recreation program skills and safety knowledge required.
- Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
- Knowledge of sport specific rules and regulations.
- A cooperative attitude and a team player.
- Must have a desire to work with children and demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability, and good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Hold or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hiring.
