About Us
Day Camps offer a ten-week summer experience running from June 7 to August 13, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 5:30pm. With five unique camp sites, each location provides an exciting, individualized experience for participants. Children and teens, ages 5 to 14, will enjoy outdoor adventures, organized games, special guest activities, and plenty of fun in the sun!
Job DescriptionThis counselor position for Summer Day Camps involves organizing and leading structured activities and games for children while ensuring their safety and enjoyment. Responsibilities include providing positive leadership, supervising activities like games and arts and crafts, and assisting with daily housekeeping tasks. The counselor must maintain a positive rapport with children, parents, and staff, handle behavioral conflicts professionally, and ensure fair and consistent discipline.
Safety is the top priority, with an emphasis on adhering to City safety policies and maintaining an accurate headcount during outings. Enthusiasm and a strong work ethic are essential for this role.
June-August (mornings & afternoons) & occasional trainings leading up to camp.
Examples of Duties- Activity Planning & Implementation:
Collaborate with Directors to plan, develop, and execute engaging camp activities, ensuring they are fun, educational, and in line with guidelines. - Safety First:
Adhere to and enforce all policies related to COVID-19, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for everyone. - Supervision & Support:
Provide constant supervision and guidance to campers, assisting with programs and activities while maintaining a positive atmosphere. - Communication &
Collaboration:
Foster clear communication with Youth Program Supervisors, staff, and families to ensure smooth operations and address any concerns promptly. - Maintenance & Organization:
Help keep the program site and equipment in excellent condition, assisting with housekeeping duties as needed. - Safety Knowledge:
Uphold the City’s safety policies and procedures to create a secure environment for campers and staff. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Display excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—when interacting with staff, participants, families, and external agencies to ensure a smooth and efficient camp experience.

Bring an enthusiastic and upbeat spirit to engage with children and create an enjoyable experience. - Leadership
Skills:
Demonstrate strong leadership abilities to guide and motivate kids, ensuring fun and productive activities. - Dependability & Trustworthiness:

Have a genuine love for working with children and creating a supportive and exciting environment for their growth and enjoyment.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Previous experience with children and CPR & First Aid Certification.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
