Position Summary:

The Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator designs, coordinates, and manages a district-wide continuum of work-based learning experiences that connect students to meaningful employer partnerships and real-world career opportunities. This position serves students across all CTE programs in the Alamance-Burlington School System, working in collaboration with Career Development Coordinators, CTE teachers, and community and industry partners.

This role is employer-facing and opportunity-focused. The WBL Coordinator builds and manages the employer relationships and placement opportunities that make WBL possible. The WBL Coordinator works alongside CDCs to ensure placement opportunities align with student career plans.

The goal of this role is to expand student access to high-quality work-based learning experiences by building and sustaining employer and community partnerships, identifying and developing a district-wide continuum of WBL placement opportunities, and ensuring all placements meet state and federal requirements.

Regular travel to employer and community partner sites is expected. A valid North Carolina driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.

Qualifications

  • Holds or is eligible for a North Carolina 747 Career Development Coordinator or 749 Career Development Facilitator license

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; background in Career and Technical Education, school counseling, or career counseling preferred
  • Experience planning and coordinating work-based learning programs (internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships) preferred
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships with employers, businesses, and community organizations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong ability to build effective, collaborative relationships with employers, educators, and community stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project coordination skills
  • Knowledge of WBL models, North Carolina WBL requirements, and employer engagement strategies
  • Proficiency in digital tools for data management, documentation, and communication
  • Knowledge of current workforce trends, labor market data, and in-demand industries in the Alamance County region
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent partnerships and placement opportunities across schools and program areas
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license required
Major Functions and Duties
  • Work-Based Learning Opportunity Development and Coordination
    • Identify, develop, and maintain a district-wide continuum of work-based learning opportunities including job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, and apprenticeships
    • Work with CDCs and CTE teachers to identify students ready for WBL experiences and connect them to appropriate placement opportunities aligned with their CTE pathway and career plan
    • Ensure all WBL placements meet North Carolina state requirements and federal Perkins V compliance standards
    • Maintain employer-level and program-level documentation including partnership agreements, training plans, and WBL opportunity records
