Supplier Quality Engineer
Responsibilities
- Apply mechanical knowledge to understand product operation and manufacturing processes and use this understanding to prevent and resolve quality issues.
- Identify quality issues quickly on the production floor and implement effective short-term and long-term countermeasures.
- Detect weak points in supplier processes and incoming materials to prevent defects from reaching production.
- Monitor supplier performance using defined quality measures and coordinate support with supplier representatives to address issues.
- Assist suppliers with process improvements and corrective actions to enhance quality, reliability, and consistency of incoming components.
- Evaluate tooling capability, identify gaps, and drive improvements to ensure tooling supports stable and capable processes.
- Lead and facilitate process-focused meetings to define quality measures, analyze performance, and agree on corrective and preventive actions.
- Support and participate in PPR evaluations to review performance, define improvement actions, and track progress.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and development of quality team members and support workforce systems used for coordination and scheduling.
- Lead teams effectively regardless of prior industry or experience, providing clear direction, coaching, and support.
- Collaborate closely with production, engineering, tooling, and supplier teams to drive cross-functional problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Implement and oversee rapid countermeasure processes to contain and resolve quality issues in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, process capability, and supplier performance.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment, including rapid countermeasure implementation.
- Strong mechanical and process knowledge applied to high-volume or complex manufacturing operations.
- Experience with supplier quality, including monitoring supplier performance and driving corrective actions.
- Ability to evaluate tooling capability and identify opportunities for improvement.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in automotive or powersports manufacturing is preferred.
- Experience working in high-volume or technically complex manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge and practical use of PPAP and related quality engineering methodologies.
- Experience supplier quality management, process improvement, and performance tracking.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burlington, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
