Piedmont Metals is seeking a dependable Forklift Operator / Material Handler to support our manufacturing and shipping operations. This position is responsible for safely operating forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes to move raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished products throughout the facility.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient material flow, supporting production schedules, and ensuring shipments are loaded and unloaded safely and accurately.
Responsibilities- Operate forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes to transport materials throughout the facility.
- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
- Move raw materials, finished goods, and production materials to designated locations.
- Sort, organize, and stage materials for production and shipping activities.
- Verify materials are properly identified and stored.
- Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Conduct basic preventative maintenance checks on material handling equipment.
- Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with inventory movement, material handling, and production support tasks as needed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, production personnel, and shipping staff to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Forklift operating experience preferred.
- Previous material handling, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to safely transport and stage materials throughout the facility.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes.
This position operates in a manufacturing and warehouse environment and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
