Certified Nurse Midwives provide a comprehensive range of primary health services across the lifespan, from adolescence through menopause. This includes primary care, gynecology and family planning, preconception counseling, prenatal care, labor and delivery support, postpartum care, and newborn care during the first 28 days. CNMs may also provide treatment for male partners with sexually transmitted infections (per ACNM guidelines).
This full‑time position includes up to four days in the office and 6–9 call shifts (24‑hour) per month. While OB/GYN experience is preferred, we welcome new graduates eager to grow within a supportive team.
All candidates must be graduates of an accredited nurse‑midwifery program and hold current CNM certification and North Carolina licensure (or eligibility). Candidates are expected to demonstrate the highest level of professional judgment in accordance with NC Board of Nursing standards. Current BLS certification is also required.
Responsibilities- CNMs provide initial and ongoing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, perform physical exams, and prescribe controlled and prescription medications.
- Rotate assigned call at the hospital performing post‑partum rounds in the morning, doing birthplace assessments, and admitting and discharging patients as appropriate.
- Administer and prescribe medication in compliance with the DEA and the Board of Nursing for Advanced Practice Nurses, Category 2–7 drugs by the North Carolina Board of Medicine.
- Provide patient health education; address questions or concerns regarding medications, disease process, and anticipated outcomes.
- Comply with OSHA, Infection Control, and Safety policies including personal protective equipment, handling of infectious wastes, and properly respond to fire drills and/or emergencies; CNM is aware of the goals for JCAHO and adheres to the expected standards.
- Consult with MD as necessary regarding patients’ issues and plans of care.
- Order and schedule laboratory tests and diagnostic tests with follow‑up of the results; CNM will follow through on all tests that are abnormal.
