Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel position requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience, Epic proficiency, and strong cardiac care skills on night shift.

Details
  • 30-bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (2A) providing 24/7 care in a private-room setting
  • Primary patient population includes cardiac diagnoses: CHF, ACS, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization (with and without intervention), rule-out MI, syncope, and pacemaker placement
  • Secondary patient population includes respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP-dependent patients
  • Patient rooms are remotely monitored by a Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department (CCMD)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for patients on drips or BiPAP, and 1:5 otherwise
  • Required skills include: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, pre/post cardiac cath care, peripheral and PICC line management, cardiac and vasoactive drip management (including titration), procedural sedation, chest tube management (Emerson and Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, and tracheostomy management
  • EMR:
    Epic (mandatory experience required)
  • Schedule:

    3x12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend rotation required; holiday coverage as needed
  • Scheduling is managed over a 6-week self-assisted schedule through Optilink, based on departmental need, patient acuity, skill mix, and previous assignments
  • Nurse Assistants available 24/7; RN Secretary available 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Requirements
  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact RN license accepted in NC required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Cardiac PCU experience required; must be comfortable with 1:5 patient ratios
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with Rapid Response Teams preferred
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred
  • Two professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • All RNs must pass a Pass/Fail EKG exam during compliance, with two attempts allowed; study materials will not be provided by the facility, so candidates should prepare in advance
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
  • Zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
