Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site Tax Preparer role located in the Greater Burlington Area. The Tax Preparer will meet with clients to gather financial information, review documents, and determine filing status and eligibility for credits and deductions. Responsibilities include preparing individual income tax returns, verifying accuracy and completeness, and ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations. The role involves explaining tax results to clients, answering questions, and providing guidance on basic tax planning considerations.

The Tax Preparer will also maintain organized records, protect sensitive information, and support office operations during peak tax season.

Qualifications
  • Strong tax preparation skills, including experience preparing individual income tax returns and working with diverse client situations.
  • Knowledge of tax law and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply current federal and state tax rules.
  • Understanding of finance and financial statements to accurately interpret income, expenses, and relevant documents.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills to identify errors, reconcile data, and ensure accurate filings.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts in clear, accessible language.
  • Comfort with tax preparation software and basic office technology (e.g., document management, electronic filing systems).
  • Ability to work on-site in the Greater Burlington Area, including evenings and weekends during peak tax season.
  • Relevant certification or training in tax preparation (e.g., tax course completion, IRS PTIN registration); additional credentials such as Enrolled Agent or accounting coursework are a plus.
