The Vermont Department of Labor is committed to helping Vermonters achieve their employment goals by connecting job seekers with career opportunities, training, and employers. We are seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Job Center Specialist I (JCS I) in our Burlington office.

As the first point of contact in the American Job Center, you will welcome customers, answer questions, and provide individualized one‑on‑one assistance to people from all backgrounds who are navigating employment transitions. This includes supporting unemployment insurance claimants and other job seekers with job searches, resume development, online applications, workforce system registration, and the use of computers and technology needed to find employment.

Every customer has unique circumstances, and your ability to listen, assess needs, and provide guidance will make a meaningful difference in helping individuals move toward employment.

Success in this position requires more than excellent customer service. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping others, is patient when teaching technology, and is committed to ensuring every customer feels respected, supported, and connected to the resources they need. You will become knowledgeable about workforce programs, community organizations, supportive services, and local employers so you can make informed referrals and help customers overcome barriers to employment.

In addition to providing direct customer assistance, you will greet visitors, manage reception responsibilities, maintain accurate customer records, and document services provided in department information systems. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance customer service with timely and accurate documentation are essential to success.

If you are passionate about helping people, enjoy building relationships within your community, and want to make a positive impact on the lives of Vermonters, we encourage you to apply.
