The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont invites nominations and applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Education (DOE) beginning in Fall 2026, at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The University of Vermont (UVM), College of Education and Social Services (CESS), Department of Education, seeks to hire a quantitatively trained Assistant Professor of Education Finance (tenure-track) for a full-time (9-month) appointment to begin August 2026. Together, CESS and the Department seek to: a) educate and prepare outstanding professionals in education, social work, and human services; b) engage in high quality research and scholarship;

and c) provide exemplary professional service within Vermont, nationally, and globally. Specifically, CESS facilitates transdisciplinary synergy in research, teaching, and service. The primary mission of the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (EDLP) program is to prepare graduate students to serve as leaders and policy makers in Vermont's K-12 school and districts as well as in a range of school- and community-based service sectors.

The EDLP Program has a long history of training the state's K-12 educational leaders and policy makers by collaborating with Vermont's K-12 districts and Agency of Education (AoE), emphasizing research-based approaches to instructional leadership, staff and educator capacity building, programs and services, and network improvement communities. The program currently offers a) a master's degree, b) a practitioner-focused, improvement science-oriented Ed.D., and c) a research apprenticeship model Ph.D., all in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.

The Department

The EDLP programs situated within the Department of Education, which is widely recognized for its rigorous academic research, high-quality student experience, innovative teaching practices, and collegial, inclusive work environment. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in Birth-age 21 educator preparation, curriculum and instruction, special education, higher education and student affairs, educational leadership and policy studies, individually designed majors, and interdisciplinary studies.

In addition, we offer undergraduate minors in American Sign Language, computer science education, education for cultural and linguistic diversity, special education, and coaching.

UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Adirondack Mountains of New York State and the Montreal metropolitan area an hour north.

The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic, and recreational activities. Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Engage in the development, expansion, and leadership of nationally recognized graduate programs (M.Ed., Ed.D., and Ph.D.) with a focus on state and local funding mechanisms, education finance, and educational outreach related to the institution's land grant mission

* Engage in an active program of research resulting in high-impact publications and presentations

* Seek external funding for research, scholarly activities, and/or program development

* Teach, supervise, and advise master's and doctoral students in the EDLP program

* Mentor doctoral students in the design and implementation of quantitative inquiry in education leadership, policy, and finance studies
