The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont seeks applicants for a full-time 9-month, Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science (CHDF) beginning in Fall 2026. The occupant of this position will teach in the College's Counseling Programs. Successful candidates will have a Clinical Mental Health Counseling background with teaching and supervision experience rooted in social justice principles.

Once hired, the candidate will be expected to teach and provide clinical supervision within a variety of CACREP informed courses, seminars, and clinical settings.

The Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science

The Counseling Program is situated within the Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science (CHDF). The Counseling Programs' pedagogy and curriculum are grounded in culturally responsive social justice principles of expanding access to services; and examining pathways to interrupting systemic barriers to positive development and healthy relationships. Our CACREP Accredited master's degree programs include School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs, including a dual option.

Our doctor of PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision was launched in Fall, 2024.

The Community

UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 with a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities.

Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that may include:

* Overseeing the program's community clinic in the role of clinical director, and direct supervisor of master's level counseling interns, and doctoral student supervisors;

* Teaching primarily courses at the master's level focused on both school counseling and clinical mental health counseling;

* Advising master's and doctoral students in the Counseling Programs;

* Sharing rotating coordination roles and activities within the Counseling programs, including oversight of curriculum; student recruitment, admissions, and advising.

* Collaborating with Department faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, and service;

* Serving as an active member of relevant professional associations and/or scholarly societies; and

* Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college and university levels.

Qualifications:

* Master's degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program (or relevant clinical degree in a closely related field);

* Licensed in clinical mental health counseling or related clinical field;

* Experience coordinating/managing a mental health clinic;

* Evidence of equity oriented, social justice work within the counseling profession;

* Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate level;

* Evidence of effective clinical supervision of counseling students;

* Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills;

* Hold appropriate professional counseling certifications and be eligible for licensure in Vermont; and

* Evidence of counselor educator identity and affiliation with related professional counseling and/or counselor education organizations.

Desirable

Qualifications:

* Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited program
