As a School Nutrition Worker, you will play an essential role in supporting student health and academic success by ensuring the provision of nutritious, well-balanced meals in a safe and welcoming environment. Responsibilities include preparing, portioning, and serving food in accordance with established guidelines and standards; maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving, and dining areas; and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

This position also involves setting a positive tone in the cafeteria by providing courteous and respectful service to students, staff, and visitors. School Nutrition Workers contribute to creating a supportive school community where all students are encouraged to thrive.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Prepare and serve meals according to school guidelines and recipes
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the cafeteria, kitchen, and serving areas
• Assist with receiving and storing food supplies and equipment
• Follow food safety and hygiene regulations
• Provide friendly and efficient customer service to students and staff
• Assist in maintaining inventory and restocking supplies
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in food service preferred but not required
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Basic math skills for measuring ingredients and calculating serving sizes
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and stand for long periods of time

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• On your feet most of the day
• Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs
• Working around hot ovens, freezers, and kitchen equipment
• Fast-paced environment with lots of movement
• Some exposure to noise, cleaning supplies, and food odors
• Teamwork and daily contact with students and staff

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:

• SALARY: As per the Master agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a hourly position paid Bi-Weekly
• BENEFITS: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
• PAID TIME: CTO As per the Master Agreement
