General Purpose
This role will act as a lifeguard 2-4 times a week, and the remaining time will act as a camp counselor. Counselor works in cooperation with the director, assistant directors, and camp counselors carrying out specific program activities. Lifeguard will oversee 26 children or experience working with children is required. Staff training will be June 15-18, and camps will run June 22-August 14, with July 3rd off in observance of Independence Day.

Essential Job Functions- Follow all departmental and state rules and regulations.
- Assist in planning and instruction program.
- Check area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to supervisor.
- Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
- Report all accidents and incidents occurring within jurisdiction to supervisor.
- Administer proper First Aid as required.
- Required to be on site 15 minutes before the program starts for setup and preparation.
- Required to clean up at the end of the day.
- Participation in the evaluation process.
- Develop a water safety plan with program director.
- Act as program lifeguard when program participants are engaged in swimming/water activities & follow all State of Vermont licensing regulations when children are swimming.
Job Requirements

- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- College course work in education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation preferred.
- Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
- Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers and supervisors.
- Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
- Knowledge of a variety recreation/leisure activities and group games.
- A cooperative attitude and team player.
- Prior First Aid/CPR/Lifeguard training. Current Lifeguard Certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children and creativity.
- Ability to pass a State of Vermont Background Check for Childcare Providers and be fingerprinted as part of the process.
- Complete required trainings before the start of the camp program, as part of the childcare licensing.
