Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Tenure Track) at the University of Vermont
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2025. Areas of interest include but are not limited to cybersecurity, data privacy, trustworthy AI, and adversarial machine learning. Ideal applicants would show strong potential for transdisciplinary collaboration across campus in fields such as complex systems, cybersecurity, data privacy, engineering, environmental science, social sciences, and health sciences.
The Department of Computer Science is a growing research hub within the University with vibrant research including complex systems, security & privacy, formal methods, computational social science, and AI/ML. The department is associated with UVM’s Complex Systems Center and Center for Computer Security and Privacy, both of which are home to interdisciplinary research efforts supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, DARPA, and corporate sponsors including Mass Mutual, Google, and Amazon.
The department encourages and invests in research excellence among junior faculty, and two department members received NSF CAREER awards in 2023. The department has a rapidly growing graduate program, with the number of PhD students tripling since 2018.
Faculty hired into this position are expected to build an independent research program that attracts external funding, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science (including curriculum development), supervise Ph.D. and M.S. theses, advise undergraduate students, and participate in service to the department, university, and discipline.
