Job DescriptionThe Burlington School District seeks Early Education para educators to collaborate with professional staff, facilitating language, social‑emotional, gross and fine motor skill development in 1:1, small group, or classroom settings.
Responsibilities- Support developmental growth of each child.
- Facilitate children's engagement in play activities with enthusiastic participation, open‑ended questioning, and enrichment of materials.
- Promote language development by describing activities, expanding language, and modeling positive communication.
- Manage behavior using positive techniques: model acceptable behavior, redirect, set limits, assess safety, and reinforce choices.
- Apply child development principles, use age‑appropriate rules, consider individual needs, and support self‑reliance.
- Collaborate with teaching team: follow IEP objectives, use prescribed materials, participate in planning, supervise across environments, prepare materials, assist with data recording, attend trainings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education:
- Minimum:
At least two years post‑secondary education or successful Praxis exam completion. Child Development Associate certification. - Preferred:
Coursework in Early Childhood or related field;
Associate or Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
- Minimum:
Experience working with children ages birth to 6 (preferred but not required). - Preferred:
Experience with children who have special needs.
- Work environment includes office, classroom, outdoor, community preschool, or other school setting.
- Buildings may be air‑conditioned or un‑air‑conditioned and may expose staff to weather extremes.
- Staff must tolerate noise, stressful situations, bodily secretions.
Salary per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District. Intensive Needs para educators receive a $4.00 per hour premium.
