The University of Vermont (UVM) is searching for an experienced, forward‑looking leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Education & Social Services (CESS). The Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer, lead nearly 150 faculty and staff, and act as a coalition builder, fundraiser, and advocate for the College’s disciplines.
Key Responsibilities- Align the College’s structure and resources with the new strategic plan “Green, Gold, and Bold,” ensuring priorities support the core mission and academic goals.
- Build infrastructure to support a growing research enterprise, expand grant development resources, and diversify the College’s funding portfolio.
- Guide the College toward long‑term financial and enrollment growth, fostering collaboration with other deans and advocating for shared investment.
- Foster collaboration within CESS and across campus and community, strengthening relationships and elevating partnerships.
- Actively cultivate prospects for scholarly, philanthropic, and strategic partnerships, serving as the College’s visible advocate.
- Continue to strengthen the student experience by integrating research, practice, and experiential learning and building supportive infrastructure.
- Attract, retain, and develop an exceptional faculty and staff, promoting a welcoming culture, professional development, and stable staffing.
- Earned doctorate in education, social work, counseling, human services, or a closely related field; distinguished scholarly record commensurate with a tenured full‑professor appointment.
- Experience administering a large academic unit, including strategic and financial planning and enrollment management, with a track record of leadership success.
- Record of success in advancing intercultural competence and inclusive public education.
- Strong commitment to public education and the Land‑Grant mission; experience with alumni or donor relations and fundraising potential.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across silos, engage community and professional partners, and connect academic program design to workforce demands.
- Experience with licensure, accreditation, change management, conflict resolution, and shared governance.
- Resilience, vision, and empathy to bring initiatives to fruition and to handle difficult conversations with transparency.
Target salary: approximately $250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
