Assistant Afternoon Forest Preschool Teacher

Burlington Forest Preschool is a licensed 5 STAR program located at Ethan Allen Homestead with two classes for children ages 3 - 5. While we have indoor classrooms, we spend as much time as we can outside throughout the year. Our curriculum emphasizes a place‑based, inquiry‑based, emergent approach, with a focus on the natural world and natural materials.

Job Description

This assistant position works with both classrooms throughout the week. We do not require assistant teachers to hold an educator's license or a degree in education, but mandatory professional development will be required upon starting. The part‑time position is 20 regular hours per week: from 12:00 - 4:00, Monday through Friday, with additional required hours for staff meetings and school events.

Teachers have 7 weeks of paid breaks during closures throughout the year.

  • Commitment to individual, communal, and global well‑being, and the willingness to engage in professional and personal reflection practices to support this.
  • Commitment to incorporating our values of social justice, anti‑racism, anti‑bias, sustainability, land stewardship, and partnership with colleagues and community members to further these goals.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, how to implement a meaningful, constructivist, emergent curriculum using the cycle of inquiry.
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to learn about the natural world, spend time outside in all weather, and seek ways to utilize natural materials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with lead teachers.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and curiosity.
